Frugal Friday: Saving in the Springs Part 2

I’m happy to say the savings are still going strong in Colorado Springs. My friend and I went to On The Border for lunch this past weekend. While I’m not a huge chain restaurant fan, I’ve never really had a bad experience with OTB so I was happy with the choice. Then I remembered I had a $10 gift card sitting in my wallet which would mean a near free lunch for me, hooray! I bought this gift card on some Groupon knock off site that I now can’t remember the name of and it’s driving me crazy (mostly because I wonder if they have more offers like this).

I went to check in on the Yelp app that I love so much on my BlackBerry and saw a check in offer. I’ve heard about check in offers but never seen one before so when I saw it was for a bowl of queso , I couldn’t have been happier. Hot cheese in a bowl? Don’t mind if I do.

I’m sad to say this was the best part of the experience there. Yeah, it was comparable to Velvetta and Rotel but I will never hate on a bowl of queso because, cmon, who doesn’t love queso? For my meal I  got the street style mini pork tacos.

They were completely dry and overcooked. The rice and beans that came with it were cold even though it took a good 25 minutes for our food to come out (we were facing the bar where there was a count down clock to Cinco de Mayo so I had that in my face the entire time while waiting for our food) Chewing on the pork brought me flashbacks of this

Seeing that it’s 58 days to Christmas (yeah, 58) , this movie will be coming on soon-hooray!

Since I can’t get enough Mexican food in my life, we went to 3 Margaritas for my friends dads birthday. When scouting their menu online, I saw this offer for a free margarita or sopapilla.

Guess which one I used it for?

During the week, I went to various thrift stores in the area and found some gems at the Arc thrift store in Colorado Springs.

Starbucks tumbler for $1.99

Betsey Johnson laptop case-$3.99

Book and a book on cd for $6

Always one to support local business, I stopped at Independent Recordsthe other day.  With all things iTunes these days, I find a local cd place comforting. They bring me back to my high school days when I used to go to them all the time.

I drove by this place a number of times while visiting Colorado Springs and soon remembered there was a cd I was on the hunt for so there was no harm in stopping to see if they had it. The first thing you notice when you walk is, duh, the selection of cds and dvds and also the intense smell of incense in the air. I hate incense so I breathed through my mouth and powered on.

I was looking Room on Fire by the Strokes, which is not their best cd but has my favorite song-Reptilia-on it. Not only did they have it but they also had a new copy for only $7.99-score! They also have a cd section consisting of cds that are $.98 and $1.98 so it was interesting to look through and see what type of music is going for that cheap these days. All I’m going to say is that there was a lot of Celine Dion, Clay Aiken and Michael Bolton but also a few normal artists every now and then. This place was like Target-go in for one thing, walk out with six other things and that’s quite alright with me since I got a bunch of new music for the car ride out to Colorado.

Do you check in on Four Square or Yelp?

Where do you get music-iTunes, Amazon, Limewire, cd’s, friends, etc.?
